एक समय की बात है, एक मठ के बोहोत ज्ञानी मठाधीश थे और उनके उतने ही ज्ञानी रब्बी (यहूदी धर्मगुरु) मित्र थे। ये सुदूर गाँव की बात है, बोहोत पहले की, जब परिस्तिथियाँ विकट हुआ करती थीं और कभी-कभी बोहोत ख़राब हो जातीं थीं। मठ के सभ्यों की संख्या कम हो रही थी, और मठ के साधुओं का जीवन भय, दुर्बलता और व्याकुलता से भरा हुआ था। मठाधीश अपने मित्र के पास गए और रोये। उनके मित्र, रब्बी ने उनको सांत्वना दी और कहा " मेरे भाई, तुम्हे ये जानना चाहिए। यहूदी समाज में हमें बोहोत पहले से पता है के मसीहा हम में से एक है। "

"क्या", मठाधीश ने आश्चर्य से कहा, "मसीहा हम में से एक है ? ये कैसे हो सकता है?"

पर रब्बी ने जोर दिया के ऐसा ही है, और मठाधीश अपने मठ को वापस चले गए, सोचते और प्रार्थना करते हुए, आश्वासित और उत्साहित। मठ में, बगल से जाते साधु को देखकर मठाधीश सोचते के क्या यही तो नहीं है। प्रार्थनालय, में आती आवाज को सुनते और बोलने ने वाले के चेहरे को ध्यान से देखते के क्या यही तो नहीं है। मठाधीश हमेशा से दयावान थे, पर अब उन्होंने अपने सारे साधु-भाइयों को और भी करुणा, सम्मान और आदर देना शुरू कर दिया था। जल्दी ही, ये सभी के ध्यान में आने लगा। एक साधु-भाई ने मठाधीश के पास आकर उनसे पूछा के उन्हें क्या हो गया है।

थोड़ा पूछने पर, मठाधीश ने उन्हें बताया जो रब्बी ने कहा था। जल्द ही वे साधु भी सभी साधु-बहियों को आदर और सम्मान के साथ देखने लगे। बात आग की तरह फैल गयी : मसीहा हम में से ही कोई एक है। अचानक पूरा मठ पूजा, प्रेम और कृपा से जिवंत हो उठा। साधुओं का आध्यात्मिक जीवन गहरा, उत्साही और समर्पित हो गया, [...] सेवाएं जिवंत और ऊर्जावान होने लगीं। जल्दी ही पास के गाँव-वाले धार्मिक-सेवाओं में आने लगे, श्रवण, चिंतन और मनन करने लगे, उन में से कई लोगों ने मठ का जीवन अपना लिया। उनकी शपत-विधि के बाद उन्हें रहस्य बताया गया, वह सत्य के उनका जीवन उनके ऊर्जा के स्रोत पर आधारित था, साथ-मिलकर जीने मे : मसीहा हम में से एक है।

मठ की बोहोत प्रगति हुई, और मठ के साधु एक दूसरे की नज़रों में और ईश्वर की नज़रों में ज्ञान और कृप में बोहोत आगे बढ़े। और वे अभी भी यही कहते है के अगर आप इस जगह पहुंचें जहाँ जीवन है, आशा है, करुणा और कृपा है, तो रहस्य एक ही है : मसीहा हम में से एक है।

We are the stories we tell and this impacts how we see self, others and the world around us. If we choose to see every person as profound, or in other words, every person is worthy and we then treat them with kindness and love and share hope, we create a beautiful world around us and one in which people want to more deeply interact. I do my best to live this way each day and to imagine each encounter with each person is a possibility to learn something new from them or myself. I had an amazing encounter with a homeless man in Washington DC... two actually. One is Mr Weeks who engaged me in conversation on my way to work. I asked if he would like a Free Hug, yes. And after that first encounter every day when we saw each other he would engage in conversation with me "schooling" me about life. :) The other is Aed, another homeless man I met in DC and took to lunch one day. By Nature innately & inner-netly from origin each human soul is a bundle of divine positivity without exception.This is exactly the eternal search & spirituality we all practice. One who realizes it is the Master/Messiah. I like the story that Megan McKenna tells. It's what happens. Gandhi said, "If you don't see God in the next person you meet, it's a waste of time to look further." If we see God in each other, and realize that God is infinite possibility and love, how could we not feel hope and kindness? There were times,especially when I was younger, that a teacher or elder saw profound possibility in me and told me so, profoundly raising my self-esteem and self-confidence. Those statements still remain with me and are part of my undergirding. Knowing and reminding myself that God incarnates into each of us helps me see the profound and divine in everyone.

The story is beautiful, inspiring. However, I opt to see such godliness or goodness only in some select people. Its a struggle to visualise God in people with whom we don't get along or have issues of understanding. Immediately the mind switches to "I" and "They:. Here I like this quote of Gandhi because its an everyday challenge. Perhaps this is afterall the real struggle of human life ... to make an effort and find God in others so we can really see God in oneself too !

I love this story. It is simple and profound. And it is relatively easy to apply in life. There are Messiahs or Prophets in all wisdom traditions giving message of life to awaken. According this story the Messiah is one of us. Who is that one? To me One is that connects all of us. It is like a thread that ties and connects all the beads around it. To me it represents compassion, love, gratitude, graciousness and joy.When we relate to that Messiah in one of us, we relate to that Messiah within all of us. The one belongs to all of us. Compassion is contagious, kindness is contagious, love is contagious. Hope is contagious. It is like one lamp lighting the other. This is my daily experience. When I see someone with fresh loving or kind eyes I see the smile of loving kindness. When I comfort and soothe a crying child by putting my hand on his back, the child looks at me with grateful eyes. When I meet someone and a smile comes on my face, the other smiles back effor...
