Medicine for the Earth

In all spiritual traditions it is taught that everything that manifests in the physical world starts in the invisible realms of spirit.

We must remember that a baby grows in the womb. Trees and plants start with a seed that is nurtured in the earth and then expands into roots, branches, leaves, buds, fruits, and flowers. Creation comes through us.

We often expect change just to happen magically without the inner work that is needed to create outer change. We want science to magically create "a cure" for all the ills of our times. But the true changes we are looking for must come from within. We need to incorporate spiritual practices into our daily lives and live the practices.

We need to be able to work through the dark states of consciousness and transform them into golden light. This is the true meaning of alchemy. And then our outer world will reflect our state of light back to us.

We must remember that we are not just form and matter. We are luminous beings. And our destiny is to radiate light.

Right now many of us walk around with unexamined thoughts, attitudes, and emotions. We live a life filled with fear and this generates states of hate and war. We believe that there is scarcity of resources and that we are limited in what we can create. This is a reflection of how we live from a place of separation.

The ultimate teaching is, "It is who we become that changes the world and not what we do." The part of us that is "becoming" involves remembering that we are spiritual beings whose destiny is to radiate light and channel unconditional love. We came here to learn about the power of love and to create from love. The part that we are "doing" involves how we walk on this earth as conscious beings. We must be conscious of every action, thought, and word. For once again, our outer world is a reflection of our inner state.

Seed Questions for Reflection

How do you relate to the notion that the true changes we are looking for must come from within? Can you share a personal story of a time you felt your world change because of who you were becoming? What helps you be mindful of the being in the doing?

I felt my world change. There have been two occasions in my life where I have ‘heard’ an inner voice (is this the truest me away deep down within myself?) and it has led to ‘becoming’. I am still becoming. I lived surrounded by family and friends, colleagues and teachers and yet I know now that I was living very much alone. I was surrounded by Love and yet my own fears were what I held closest to me. I smiled at Love and politely said ‘Thank you’ but I never let it in. Yes, on the outside it looked as if I had accepted Love, but I’d never even embraced it, never mind letting it permeate me so as to become one with my being (being Love). So dire was my predicament that I had no choice but to let that Love in or to die. However, just the very fact that I had heard my inner voice was all that I needed in order to move forward, for that voice was also my strength, my very real strength, my true courage and my guiding Light.  Thank you so much . So very true . What we see outside of us manifests only when the change within us takes place . This is a universal law and have experienced it in my own life . We are the creators .

Such truth in "We must remember that we are not just form and matter. We are luminous beings. And our destiny is to radiate light." As we focus on only changing ourselves in a non egotistical way, but from the heart, we realize it is the only place change occurs. We cannot change another person, nor should we, but we can change and improve ourselves in order to shine our light as brightly as we are able. I say this as a person who is challenged at times with episodic situational depression. Depression has had gifts (at least for me) in that I feel my compassion toward others has grown out of the darkness experienced. My set point is joy and sharing that joy, friends call me "slightly exuberant' and yet there is the darkness of depression. when I am in darkness, my own light becomes a small glimmer and yet it is still there. when I acknowledge that light and recognize it, I become aware of other people's light too. The same with gratitude which is another kind of light. I started... View full comment

I very much appreciate Sandra Ingerman's message.  As she says, everything that manifests in the physical world starts in the invisible realm of spirit.  Inside is our being, and outside is our doing.  Doing is an expression of our being.  Real and lasting change in doing is accomplished through change in being.  Substantial change is from inside out.  In learning this, my world view changed.  A major part of the change for me was in regards to responsibility.  I am responsible for my happiness and unhappiness, which are the result of my way of being and not of what befalls me from outside.  I learned if I'm not happy and want to be happy, I need to change me within and not just my outside.  Change in my external behavior may facilitate change within, but it's only when I change from within that I really change.  Knowing that my doing is the manifestation of my inner being helps me be mindful of the being in the doing.

I am grateful to get such tapping on my shoulder to remain awake. Such tapping turns my life into  a pilgrimage. My everyday becomes a holy day, a Buddha Day, a Christ Day, a Krishna Day.It awakens me to see the light that is always there. The seen is born in the womb of the unseen. When I get so much caught up in the seen world I tend to forget and become oblivious of the unseen yet always present ,the ground of existence, I get entangled in the web of Maya, the illusion. The spiritual journey as I understand is a process of keeping my inner eyes open to see the unseen, to keep my inner ears open to hear the sound of  the eternal silence. When I come to realize this truth, I feel oneness in manyness. Transformation, alchemy, takes place when we get connected with the invisible ground of existence, the Being, the Self. We come home. When I deviate from this path, I pause, breathe, wake up and see the light. May we make our life journey a pilgrimage and relate to each... View full comment
