Stepping Over The Bag Of Gold

When I first met a gentle man on the internet he invited me to his home in High Country, NC. Proactive, I applied for jobs at the university but heard nothing back. Five months later when I moved the five hours distance to be with him, I applied using my new address which was just a few miles from the university. The department chair for the position I applied for lived on the same street, albeit at a higher elevation. There were constant opportunities to meet faculty and attend special functions with a partner who appreciated the arts. I contributed to the household, ended up with heavy responsibilities for the community college balancing two locations and having the opportunity to listen to Mozart's Cafe while driving through the clouds. My friend's house though not in turmoil, held challenges with his son leaving incarceration two years later. Thank God for the wonderful writing and poet friends I made that balanced the challenges at home. My house never sold back in GA so the time finally arrived when tenants were out and I could move back in. What helps me see gold in every experience comes lately when I ask God, "Help me" I add Help Others - help me help others. Smiles on others' faces, allowing me to be in their company and lend a helping hand or just listen is the gold in each experience. Hide full comment

This is indeed so beautiful story…i think, we all of us can resonate with it.With growing awareness in me,(-which is)teaching me constantly to be aware and grateful for so many things in my life ,I can’t even count those things ..I feel it’s value is fathomless.it’s much more then gold, I would call it DIVINE GIFTS. 1- DIVINE UNIVERSAL ENERGIES has given me gift of breath as soon as I got a birth,every moment.I don’t have to pay to take my breath.I am immensely grateful. I am born in very pious family and I am extremely fortunate to have parents with beautiful heart and soul.it’s a precious gift,more then gold gift. I am healthy and hearty by his grace.I am able to do everything independently that’s the gold gift. I am able attend this beautiful pod ,it’s gold gift. I am blessed with beautiful family and people around me who are positive,loving and caring ,it’s beautiful gift. I am able to make friends with all the beautiful souls around the globe like ull who are responsible for enriching my life,it’s gold gift to me.I am extremely grateful and fortunate. I am blessed with so many amazing teachers who are my guide,mentor and friends,shows right path in my life.it’s beautiful gold gift.I can’t ask more.. I am blessed with two beautiful twins -SON and DAUGHTER .i feel extremely blessed and grateful. I am blessed with loving siblings and cousins who are my backbone.I am extremely grateful to divine for each and every person around me.I am learning,growing,improving and getting better and better with my challenges,mistakes… I am grateful and thankful to all the critics and adversities ,which life shows us every now and then,I strongly feel that it’s for my growth and helps me to become more powerful,creative,innovative as strength and power is there in us already and it comes out at the time of crisis and adversities. I think ,list will go on and on, So I would say that each moment ,life gives us is more then gold and I m extremely thankful and grateful…. I am feeling blessed to have each one of you. So good. I think acceptance is so key here. If we are/were hurt/traumatized/grieving, it be so difficult to be receptive, be open, and especially be trusting to the blessings in front of us. This is something that has plagued me in relationships for most of my life. One time I do remember getting past the pain and accepting the new gold was after I broke my arm for the 2nd time in three months in college. My nerve was injured during the surgery and the surgeon said it may never heal again because it may have been severed. This nerve controlled the extension of my entire forearm, wrist and fingers and after the surgery, I had to wear a brace to keep it even in a neutral position. The first month or so was hard. But at some point, I was able to pick up and play my guitar. The gold in front of me was with the arm injury, and not being able to play sports, go to the gym, or do the other things I had been doing, I had lots of time to try to play the guitar, and learn scales and things I had never taken the time to learn. I'll never forget the morning when I was playing and all of a sudden, I realized that I had extended one of my fingers the smallest distance, which meant the nerve was not severed and my arm/hand would function again. It took accepting my situation, embracing it, and making the best of it to not only heal my spirit, but heal my body. Thanks for sharing Hide full comment

There are times when life offersa "bag of gold" or golden opportunities to us in our path of life. How come we don't see them? As the saying states, " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." But how can we see beauty if our eyes are closed? I am keeping my eyes closed because I am holding on to my past negative experiences? And not letting myself be open to the unfolding of new potentially enriching life experiencing experiences? This way I keep my hands tied. I keep my inner door closed when an unkown guest knocks at my door. Life offers me a gift and I deny it!
There have been calls of growth promoting opportunities in my life. One of the most blissful calls was marrying someone out of my caste, born and raised in a different religious family and a different class. I listened to the call and followed it with my whole heart. My life has been deeply and spiritually enriched by following my bliss. Walking on such a less traveled path has yielded many blessings to me and I feel very grateful for receiving such gifts.
Keeping my mind and heart open to see and explore new vistas has expanded my consciousness. I am open to explore new avenues but I do not act impulsively amd make blind jumps. I use my discretion to make wise choice.There had been times my wife would see the golden opportunity more clearly than I did. On such occasions she encouraged me, supported me and stood by me as we were walking on the new path together with a few twists and turns.I still feel her presence in my heart though she passed away a few years ago.
