Nuevas formas de religión

Por mucho que se esté hundiendo el gran barco de la religión, seguimos siendo espirituales en nuestras necesidades y aspiraciones. Si vemos que la religión tiene una flota en lugar de un solo acorazado, podemos ver cómo ciertos tipos de religión de antaño están quedando fuera de servicio pero otras formas religiosas están en construcción. Esta generación abarca la transición. Aunque sufrimos la inseguridad de estos tiempos, también disfrutamos de la emoción de ver lo nuevo tomar forma y también de la responsabilidad de contribuir a la dirección en la
que nos estamos moviendo.

Todavía buscamos la plenitud. Es intrínseco a la identidad humana que, por mucho que hayamos logrado, nunca estamos satisfechos. Tenemos hambre y sed de lo que está más allá de nuestro alcance e incluso más allá del horizonte de nuestro deseo. La religión y la espiritualidad, de las que es menos fácil divorciarse de lo que pensábamos, son los elementos de la cultura que se ocupan de este deseo más allá del deseo. ¿Adónde nos llevan? ¿Dónde tenemos que redefinir los viejos términos mediante los cuales intentamos entendernos a nosotros mismos en este anhelo de plenitud?

¿Secular, por ejemplo, siempre significa sin fe?

La melancolía y las heridas autoinfligidas de la religión convencional y el dramático y aterrador ascenso de la religión fundamentalista acaparan los titulares; pero también hay otro tipo de religión, y, sugeriré aquí, más significativo, que está tomando forma a nuestro alrededor. Se trata del resurgimiento a una escala sin precedentes de la dimensión contemplativa –de hecho, el corazón– de la religión. Siempre ha estado ahí, generalmente marginada, a veces perseguida y ha surgido regularmente en ciertos períodos para desafiar la esclerosis y limpiar las arterias de la religión. Los sufíes del Islam o los místicos del cristianismo hablan hoy a sus descendientes espirituales como si fueran nuestros contemporáneos. De hecho, en cierto sentido lo son. Aunque tenemos que adaptarnos a su lenguaje y pensamiento históricamente condicionados, la esencia de lo que nos han dejado no ha pasado su fecha de caducidad. Esto no es sorprendente ya que lo que les preocupa y nos comunican es lo atemporal.
La Luz interior está más allá de la alabanza y la censura; Al igual que el espacio, no conoce fronteras, pero incluso está aquí, dentro de nosotros, conservando siempre su serenidad y plenitud. Sólo cuando la buscas la pierdes. No puedes apoderarte de lla, pero tampoco puedes deshacerte de lla." (Yung-Chia-Ta-Shih, siglo VII)

Hoy en día, a medida que las formas tradicionales de religión institucional mutan (este cambio no puede medirse únicamente por la asistencia a lugares de culto), la espiritualidad se expande exponencialmente. Esto indica una búsqueda intensificada de una forma de conciencia religiosa que surja y se relacione con las preocupaciones personales y nuestra vida cotidiana. Anhelamos una experiencia religiosa que surja de la verdad interior de nuestro yo más real. Sin embargo, sabemos intuitivamente que esta experiencia interior debe estar conectada y ser beneficiosa para los demás y para todos los aspectos de nuestra propia humanidad. Si la experiencia permanece fijada en sí misma, degenera. De la misma manera, el eros que no se expande en el momento adecuado hasta convertirse en ágape, muere lentamente o se vuelve violento. Lo "espiritual" que no se centra en el otro y en un amor más inclusivo es sólo una moda. A través del surgimiento de una espiritualidad auténtica, se están formando nuevas formas de una religión menos dogmática, rígida y ritualista. Anhelamos la conexión con los demás incluso cuando entramos en este nivel, el más solitario. Una espiritualidad que no forma nigún tipo de comunidad sigue siendo superficial.
La unión de la contemplación y la acción que está en el corazón de cualquier fe viva se manifiesta hoy en muchas formas nuevas de religión.

Religion is a feeling inside your soul of wonder at the universe and beyond . A church or temple or Mosque or gathering is a group of people that want to share in prayer and contemplation about their idea of their come to...moment. All people who survived prayed for something...Even the Cave men and women. We are one people one planet and one community here on Earth. Lets act like it. remember how you were raised and who raised you. Act locally then pray globally. I'm listening to the Guthies right now. Woody Carlos his sisters his kids. Pete Segaer.. Hmmmm- Lawrence Freeman's article certainly has a lot of food for thought. I feel a disconnection in the article and in the reflections I have read so far from shared personal experiences. There are so many uses of pronoun WE and barely any I. So, here I feel or see how intellectualizing "religious or spiritual" experience may be a type of "degeneration". I guess I am much more interested hearing and sharing direct experiences that seem to daily "feed my longing for wholeness". Just this morning, the taxi I had called the night before did no show up for a trip to airport. And my phone stopped working. It was a beautiful 4 am on the side of a road with no way to contact any one who could help. I spoke with the plants near me and admired the planet in the sky still bright. I did an intention setting movement and chanting ritual based in Hawaiian Huna. The cab showed up 40 mins late and got me to my plane perfectly and I had a warm friendly connection with the driver. Lawrence Freemans impulse resonate in me. I feel directed in what Jean Gebser (The Ever-Present Origin, Ohio Press 1984) calls 'prae-ligio': "Magic pro-ligio, mythical relegio, mental religion become co-supports for praeligio(n) which is the intensified and overdetermined expression of all the others... The pre-temporal becomes time-free, vacuity becomes plentitude, and in transparency the spiritual comes to perception: origin is present. In truth we ware the whole, and the whole wares us (EPO, 543). For me a message to share.

A most insightful perspective on the advancement of religion and spirituality in today's time. The essence of "the beyond" is at the root of sanatan dharma. Going beyond the physical realm and accepting our eternal form as the soul conflicts with the temporary nature of today's life goals. Forging communities through empathy and understanding. Also the breaking down of walls for entry of determined hearts onto a path eclipsing tangible wealth and riches. The heart's desire for wholeness is the soul's mission for completeness.

I would add that the transition has been going on for at least a few hundred years and probably has at least a few hundred years to go.

There have been so much hatred and bloodshed in the name of religion (and nationalism) in human history that it is hard to think of religion in a positive light. It's no wonder that J. Krishnamurti instead talked of a RELIGIOUS MIND, defining it as a mind that has freed itself from the enslaving tyranny all organized religions. A mind that sees the truth of the fundamental oneness of human psyche is a religious mind, a mind which then becomes incapable of harbouring any negative feelings toward any fellow humans because of their cultural, racial or geographical differences--according to Krishnamurti. A religious mind primarily concerns itself with thinking rationally and sanely, and living righteously with a clear sense of moral uprightness rather than believing in the senseless dogmas that pervade most tradional religions. "to challenge the sclerosis and cleanse the arteries of religion" To grow fully, many trees need pruning. It's not that the cut branches are bad or wrong; it's that their season has passed. And by pruning them, the tree grows back fuller and more fruitful. Tis the season of pruning. We tend to resist the pruning due to the pain of the cut and of letting go, losing sight of the fruitfulness it will enable. I do my best to keep my eyes on the fruit I will have the privilege to become.

Since we are all deeply and inseparably interconnected, inner experience being connected to others and benefitting others is the way we are and the way life is, and if not inner experience and the person degenerate. Disconnected, inner experience quickly shrivels and dies just like a flower disconnected from the rest of the plant. Having retired, my physical connection with others has lessened while my inner connection and spirituality have increased, and I feel a need in myself now for more coming together of contemplation and connection with others and for more coming together of contemplation and putting it into action. What helps me feed my hunger for wholeness is awareness of the one wholeness of all that is, reflection on wholeness, study about wholeness, and meditation.

This reading is very important not only for the young generation but also for the old generation. The traditional conventional othodox and dogmatic religions are not relevant to the young generation. The great ship of the fundmentalist religion seems to be sinking and as Laurence Freeman says," the resurgnce of on an unprecened scale on the contemplative scale of the contemplative dimension -indeed heart-of religion." Though I am of the old gerartion, I am on the same wave length. We all have hunger to walk on the spiritual path, a path of awakening and actualizing of human potential - self-actualization, self-realization. The tradional dogmatic religions cannot quench our fulfill ou hunger and quench our thirst. Spiituality lits up our inner light. It is beyond praise and blam, and has no space and time boudaries.
