Professor DVR Seshadri is someone who is fondly remembered by thousands of students (now corporate leaders all across the globe) at premier B-Schools of India (including IIM Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Udaipur and more, and currently at ISB since 2016)  as someone who always brought deep subject matter expertise to the courses he taught, and a sense of lightness and fun to his classes. He heartilly remarks, I am perhaps the only B-School prof who never uses powerpoints in my class. :) Interestingly, what has invariably inspired all of his students more than his subject matter expertise is deep understanding of the mystery called life (see his gripping 2 hour talk on DNA of Happiness, or checkout some nuggets here). And his personal commitment of leading a life of values, of See full.

And his personal commitment of leading a life of values, of integrity, of simplicity,  of joy, and of service. As we will get a chance to explore further, his life has its share of ups and downs, which has deepened his insight into life and allowed him to anchor himself in values. As a teacher, his mantra is -- walk, chalk and talk

Prior to his teaching roles, before 2000, he worked in a variety of companies (public sector, family business and entrepreneurial start-ups, the last ten of them as CEO) spanning a variety of industries (petroleum refining & petro-chemicals, bulk drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients, precision manufacturing and software).

His areas of interest among others include: B2B Marketing, Innovation and Entrepreneurship & Intrapreneurship. He is actively involved with several NGO’s such as Aravind Eye Care Systems, Madurai and DHAN Foundation, Madurai in addition to engagement with several top corporates. He has co-authored several books on these topics and developed over hundred case studies and authored several application-oriented journal articles in his areas of interest. He also spends a lot of time working with corporate and social leaders of the country, underscoring the importance of SQ (Spiritual Quotient) over and above IQ and EQ.

Five Questions for DVR
What Makes You Come Alive?

WHEN I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLE'S LIVES, HELP THEM TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AND GROW IN LIFE BEYOND THEIR WILDEST IMAGINATION.

Pivotal turning point in your life?

I HAD A VERY TUMULTOUS LIFE, BOTH PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DUE TO EVENTS BEYOND MY CONTROL (CALL IT FATE OR KARMA OR WHAT EVER). IT WAS THROUGH A SERIES OF COINCIDENCES AND SPOOKY EVENTS THAT THREW ME AT THE FEET OF MY GURU PUJYA SWAMI VIRAJESHWARA NEAR HOSUR.MYSHIP THAT WASFASTSINKING, SLOWLY GOT STEADIED. I WAS ASSISTED IN THIS JOURNEY BY MANY OTHER MAHATMAS.

An Act of Kindness You'll Never Forget?

WHEN MY CORPORATE LIFE WAS IN TATTERS,IN THE YEAR 2000,HAVING BEEN FORCED TO VACATE MY POSITION AS MANAGING DIRECTOR OF A COMPANY IN GUJARATOVERNIGHT, DUE TO HEAD-ON COLLISSION WITH THE CHAIRMANON REASONS OF UNETHICAL TRANSACTIONS THE CHAIRMAN WANTED ME TO EXECUTE, MY FRIEND FOR MANY YEARS AND FELLOW STUDENT AT IIM AHMEDABAD DURING 1981-1985 (IN THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM), PROF. MITLHILESHWAR JHA,WENT OUT OF THE WAY, BELIEVED IN ME,USED HIS CLOUT, BEING A SENIOR PROFESSOR AT THAT INSTITUTE, AND CONVINCED IIM BANGALORE DIRECTOR TO HIRE ME AS A PROGRAM MANAGER (AN ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION) IN THAT INSTITUTE. THAT WAS THE BEGINNING OF MY PROFESSIONAL RESURRECTIONAND OPENED THE DOORS FOR A NEW LEASE OF LIFE AS A FACULTY.

One Thing On Your Bucket List?

AT A SOCIETALY LEVEL, TO THROW MYSELF MORE INTENSELY TO THE SERVICE OF ALL LIVING BEINGS AND THINGS IN THE WORLD.
AT A PERSONAL LEVEL, TO REALISE THE DIVINITY THAT UNDERLIES AND CONNECTS ALL THAT IS IN THE COSMOS, AND LIVE IN THAT REALISATION EVERY SECOND OF MY RESIDUAL JOURNEY ON EARTH.

One-line Message for the World?

HAVING BEEN THROUGH THE FURNACE OF LIFE AND COME OUT REASONABLY UNSCATHED, WHILE IMBIBING LIFE LESSONS, MY ONE-LINE MESSAGE TO THE WORLD IS: HAKUNA MATATA (“NO WORRIES”, i.e., NOTHING IN THE WORLD IS WORTH WORRYING ABOUT); ‘BE A JOLLY’ (i.e., “BE HAPPY AND MAKE OTHERS HAPPY”); HAVE A VISION FOR YOUR LIFE; LEARN TO CHANELLISE YOUR MIND AND NOT WASTE IT ON INFRUCTUOUS THOUGHTS; AND FINALLY, RISE TO YOUR FULLEST POTENTIAL.
