May Your Cup Always Overflow

I've never made a fortune,
And I'll never make one now
But it really doesn't matter
'Cause I'm happy anyhow.

As I go along my journey
I'm reaping better than I've sowed
I'm drinking from the saucer
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I don't have a lot of riches,
And the going's sometimes tough
But with kin and friends to love me
I think I'm rich enough.

I thank God for the blessings
That His mercy has bestowed
I'm drinking from the saucer
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

He gives me strength and courage
When the way grows steep and rough
I'll not ask for other blessings
For I'm already blessed enough.

May we never be too busy
To help bear another's load
Then we'll all be drinking from the saucer
When our cups have overflowed.

May your cup always overflow.

As a child I remember my Mom would actually place her coffee with a saucer, one day I asked her why she always used the saucer when she didn't really used it and her exact words were " I use it everyday to remind myself of how blessed I am", she was 92 years old, My Mom passed four years ago at the ripe age of 100, it took me a while but I understand her words cause each morning as I sip my coffee I thank God for the people in my life, the ones here and the ones passed, the I was able to help, the ones I raised that the Lord gifted me with, the struggle and sacrifices, and the bleak times when I didn't know how it was gonna go, but out of nowhere a way was made. I can literally look back at my life and see exactly where I was carried by God, my cup is overflowing and when I look at my love ones and friends I realize how incredibly rich I am, I don't mean with material things, or money, I am old and I am loved, I am healthy, and I still able too help someone in need when I can. I unders... View full comment

A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved, a joy shared is a joy doubled. There is a lot of truth in this proverb. During a serious crisis, I started to write down every evening what I was grateful for that day. These are often small moments that previously seemed insignificant to me. It fills my heart with gratitude. This gratitude makes me more content and this contentment has given rise to a great desire to help others or make them happy, without payment or anything in return. Today, I am happy to give kindness, attention or money to a beggar, even though my counterpart may be unfriendly and inattentive or a beggar may spend the money on alcohol.

To relieve the burden upon another, one must be willing to be honest about their ego's desires and the person in need must be willing to be vulnerable. Otherwise, more chaos ensues.

When living in the present moment
Life becomes a never ending song
Flowing love from the heart
To all who in silence belong
There is no good or bad
No feeling happy or sad
For love overflowing embraces all

I love the poem from the bottom of my heart, if only we can be burden lifters for our neighbours and people around, then, how beautiful will this world be?

A beautiful poem that reminds me to focus on what I have rather than what I think is missing from my life. Furthermore, to recognise that what I have received is far more than what I could have imagined and, infers that I too have a duty to share what I have with others with the understanding that the cup is overflowing, not half full.

When everyone helps bear another's load, our cups will collectively overflow emphasizes the idea that collective support and collaboration lead to shared abundance. An example I had come across during Community Volunteer Effort to uplift a economically backward village school. We all came together from our office to support with uplifting the building, providing them computers, teaching/counselling the kids on latest technology and career options. We contributed weekend time, self pooled funds, and skills to help the students and faculty. Some provided food as well, others offer assistance with school projects, uniforms and some contributed financially. The combined efforts alleviated the burdens on the school and kids, creating a sense of shared responsibility. In this scenario, one might feel their cup is overflowing when they witness the positive impact of collective support provided. The interconnectedness of individuals, the overflowing cup symbolizes the surplus of goodwill, k... View full comment

The cup of my happiness 0verfows when I hold someone's trired hand to lighen their load. The cup of my happiness doesn't get empty. It overflows and continues overflowing with joyful gratitude. It's by giving we receive. As the poet says, "I am reaping better than I've sowed." The cup of happiness ovrflows when I give a gift of pure love to someone uncoditionally. My cup of happiness never gets empty when I hold someone's tired hand as if it's my hand. When my hands were tired by the heavy burden I was carrying, one of my friends noticed it and lightened my burden by holding my hands compssionately. Selfless service lightens heavy emotional load we carry in our life. Lightening such heavy loads is a spiritual way of living. Living life this way the world becomes a family, a nest, and life becomes a blessing. May we all hold each other's hands like brothers and sisters and make this world an abode of peace and harmony. This is my New Year's Prayer. Let us fill the cup of our life ove... View full comment

Any day when my gratitude exceeds my expectations is a wonderful day-
My sense of overflowing is usually with tears of joy- and that emotional overflow seems to arise most when I feel the support and love of my family and community beyond my sometimes limited expectations- Right now I am preparing for a dance of universal peace and an honoring of Martin Luther King, Jr and courageous black women and everything is falling into relaxed beauty and comfortable healing- I feel it

I agree with the notion, especially when helping is done for no purpose but to help. When we help one another, everyone benefits. A jump in richness for me was realizing that riches are not money. Riches for me are being alive, good health, good fortune, abilities to do all kinds of activities, other people, nature, and more. In regards to those riches, I have a fortune. I am rich enough and overflowing with riches. What helps me see my cup is overflowing is learning what true riches are, learning that we are one and what I do for another I also do for me and for everyone, and feeling satisfaction when I live all that.
