The World Becomes What We Teach: Educating a Generation of Solutionaries

September 27, 2025

“Education is the root system underlying all other systems.” For Zoe Weil, that insight has guided a lifetime of pioneering humane education. In 1987, while teaching summer courses at the University of Pennsylvania, she watched in amazement as twelve-year-olds became overnight changemakers — one boy even handwrote leaflets at home and passed them out on a Philadelphia street corner. Decades later, at an event with Jane Goodall, she reunited with that same student, now shaping HIV/AIDS policy for New York’s mayor. “That course changed my life,” he told her. “It changed mine, too,” Zoe reflected.

In 1996 she co-founded the Institute for Humane Education, which now offers graduate programs and solutionary tools for educators worldwide. She has delivered six TEDx talks, authored eight books including The Solutionary Way (with a foreword by Jane Goodall), and received national awards for her leadership. Her mission remains clear: to “graduate a generation of solutionaries” prepared to create a just, sustainable, and compassionate world.
