When we treat pain as an enemy, we create conflict within ourselves, adding emotional suffering to physical or mental discomfort it's like declaring a war inside our own minds. I remember a period of intense anxiety when, in my desperation to "fix" or escape the feelings, I only became more tense and drained. But when I shifted my approach to simply observing the tightness and anxious sensations in my body curiously, without labeling them as bad and without trying to push them away. I noticed that the distress began to lose its grip. What helps me stay with this open, "sky-like" awareness is a practice of mindful attention: gently coming back to the sensations in my body, noticing thoughts and judgments as they arise, but letting them float by like clouds. This way, pain and discomfort still come and go, but they’re no longer overwhelming; there's more peace, acceptance, and even clarity, as I remember I'm not just the pain, but also the vast awareness in which it unfolds.
