When I am mindful of simple pleasures, it is easy for me to feel grateful for them. Simple pleasures foster mindfulness, and mindfulness fosters simple pleasures, and both foster gratitude. The trick is to be mindful and not ignore what is happening in the moment. An easy personal story is finding joy in simply being with my five year old granddaughter. She is so alive, present, curious and creative. She embraces and enjoys simple pleasures, and I learn and find joy in my time with her, and I feel grateful for it all. She knows what is important instead of the silly things we adults waste time with. I agree with Jesus saying to be like little children to enter heaven. What helps me is when a small treasure overwhelms my silly distractions and worries and I am mindful of it, and the more that happens the more habit of noticing and being grateful develops.
