Why Do We Gossip?

I listent to gossip because its entertaining. When I dont like a persons behaviour, i feel the need to agree with the person gossiping about that difficult person. I feel that when I gossip about that difficult person i get instant gratification, i feel good that i called her out on her actions and then that person will change..i guess listenting to gossip or enabling gossip is wishful thinking.
