When My Father Faced An Emergency

Ahhh! I have a personal story of be accosted by a robber with a gun and showing empathy and ending up listening to his story of childhood abuse and a close friend’s story of being intentional hit by a car by a man who then began to rape her at gun point and when she showed him empathy he stopped , cried, told his story of his father abusing his sisters, promised to never do this again and turned himself into police. What helps me see more than the tip of the knife is remembering that I am just human like any other and I have all of the fear , anger, and whatever else is behind the violent threat of the knife in me and that what I want and need is what everyone wants and needs.
