Cynthia: Because people are asking about very strong emotions, like grief. How can you be coherent while experiencing grief? And Jerry gives an example. He says, can you be coherent while having a negative thought? For example, I have been in meditation where I'm having undesirable thoughts, but my heart math device is measuring coherent rhythms.

Rollin McCraty: So there's the answer. Yes, you can. Now, for example, we start most of our techniques with heart-focused breathing. Breathing modulates the rhythm of the heart.

In fact, we can just look at the HRV, the electrocardiogram, and know exactly what somebody's breathing rhythm is, and how deep their breathing is, because of that modulation. So you, in fact, if somebody is, say, frustrated or anxious, doing heart-focused breathing. Is one of... is a very good thing to start the process of shifting, of taking...

of shifting that internal state. So you can be breathing yourself into coherence before you've made the energetic shift or the emotional state.
