Rollin McCraty: In my experience, describe an inner experience. In a way that conveys what… it just… Hard. In fact, I would say impossible, but… To give a little context, I'd been a meditator for many years. In fact, I had moved to California To get a degree in consciousness studies.
That was a university that was doing consciousness degrees. That's a whole substory behind that. I don't take too much time to get into that, and that's… So I'd done that, and I'd started a company at that time when I… it was through some mutual friends from the consciousness studies That, I ended up getting introduced to Doc, and it wasn't a party, by the way, I was on business back in the East Coast, where Doc lived at that time, and thought, I'll go meet this character. Some people, so I thought, stop by, and that was the three days later thing.
Anyway, that… I wanted to give that context, because I'd already been a long-term meditator. Right, and knew a lot of the… I'd forgotten all of the Sanskrit terms, to be honest, and all that stuff. Now, you had to learn back then, and I don't remember any of that, but… So I was pretty diligent about it. Probably not very good at it in hindsight, but I was sincere about meditation and all that.
And through that, I thought I knew something about the heart, because we always talk about… So much of the language there is the heart's the center, and all this stuff, but it was really kind of treated more metaphorically, I think. Yeah, we all know what's really about the brain, all this ancient stuff. But in that 3-day period that I was talking about, it wasn't just once, but it was a gradual thing. And Doc really did help in his level of awareness, I would say, at that time, elevate my consciousness to a new state.
And that inner experience, it was literally like going through a portal. To where then you arrived at a new reference of awareness would be kind of the best way I can say this. It was very connected, but also very grounded at the same time. It was very different than most meditations I'd ever done.
Where I was kind of aware of who I really was at a higher dimensional self-level. We talk about connecting with your higher self. Well, I did, in that time, or at least that level of it. And many such journeys since that, but that was a very… An awakening moment that really started the journey of, oh, this heart stuff is not just what I thought it was, it really is the portal to your higher dimensional self.
Not just a metaphor, and all the brain-mind stuff just gets in the way of that.
