Storyteller Consciousness

--by Charles Eisenstein (Mar 29, 2011)

For words to truly be powerful, we must align them with our creative intention. Only then can we create the stories of our lives.

Unconscious lying sabotages our credibility to ourselves and others. If we cultivate the habit of speaking truthfully and treating our word as golden, then when we declare great things, they will come to pass. The more we realize the power of our words, the more mindful our speech becomes; the more mindful our speech, the greater the power of our words. We condition ourselves to our words always coming true, and foster a deep confidence in the magical creative power of our speech.

Whether on the collective or personal level, storyteller consciousness is inseparable from the new sense of self that defines the Age of Reunion. It depends on a blurring of the defining distinction of the Age of Separation, between the observer in here and the objective world out there. It will emerge spontaneously, in tandem with the crisis-induced disintegration of the illusion of separation. The story of powerlessness and separation simply won't be captivating anymore! In its place we will have a story of connectedness, of interbeing, of participation in the all-encompassing circle of the gift. And part of this story is actually a meta-story, a story about stories that invests all of our stories with creative power and motivates us to be conscious in their telling.

If I have been vague about what this will actually look like in the future, it is probably because the society that may be built around storyteller consciousness centuries hence is so unlike what we have today that I hardly dare describe it on paper. Instead of the present demarcation between drama and real life, future society will consist of stories within stories within stories, plays within plays within plays without any sense that one is "for real" and one is not. Life will be all play, and all play will be in earnest. We might commit to some of these stories as deeply as a human being can commit to anything, as passionately as the greatest artist cares about his greatest masterpiece. Each life will be a masterpiece, and some of our collective projects will span generations and alter the fabric of (what we call) reality. [...] It is happening already. Have you heard the casting call? A beautiful life is being offered, if we can only find the courage.

When we manage to see the whole picture and not just an incident, then we have a story.

When we present the whole picture with our whole being; words, inflections, gestures, light, music etc we become story tellers.

I story that touches the hearts of all is happening now ( not some time in the past) and is best presented in the present tense.

Hermano Rahul shared how important was for him the realization of Rev. Heng Sure's determination to walk 3 step and one bow until he could "straighten his tongue". Then, there is something intrinsically powerful about a person whose thoughts, words and actions are aligned. Ernesto "Che" Guevara once said: "Say what you think, do what you say." and he added:

"...let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality... We must strive every day so that this love of living humanity will be transformed into actual deeds, into acts that serve as examples, as a moving force."

Along these lines then, this (mix)quote came to mind/heart:

Kindness in words creates confidence
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness
Kindness in giving creates love
Therefore, the highest form of wisdom is kindness
If you want to be a rebel, be kind
Human-kind, be both

2. Kindness in Silence
and last Wednesday's night in the middle of our collective silence, I realized that:

Kindness in silence creates unity.

3. The Earth CommUNITY
There is no community without a unifying story.

We are living very exciting times in the history of humanity. The Earth Charter captures this cosmic ephemeral moment:

"We stand at a critical moment in Earth's history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth Community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations."

Our unifying story is the unfolding Great Turning in times of uncertainty, where we find light and amplify it in the midst of darkness; where we tap into courage and compassion to become a Love Amplified Stimulated Emission Radiation, that is: a LASER of love.

Let's keep sharing our (r)evolutionary love treating each other as brothers and sisters, as the Grand Human Family that we are. We are all in this together. Let's keep sharing our unifying stories to expand our consciousness to a newer collective and more powerful realm.

May all become compassionate, courageous and wise.

How rich is the soil of this passage that it will continue to grow within me as I ponder the storyteller consciousness. Having been a storyteller all of my life consciously and unconsciously, I find within this passage the need for truthfulness that creates and sustains life for myself and for those whose life I share. For too long we have not been intentional storytellers and I experience more and more storytellers becoming intentional about telling their stories and seeking the meta story that includes more and more stories as a way people are growing closer together and discovering how intertwined each of our lives are.
