Awakin Ahmedabad, India

"In India, when we meet and greet and we say 'Namaste', which means: I honor the place in you where the entire universe resides, I honor the place in you of love, of light, of truth, of peace. I honor the place within you where if you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, there is only one of us." ‑‑Ram Dass

Every Wednesday, a few of us come together to sit in silence for an hour, share some aha-moments for the second hour and often have a light meal afterwards. There no teachers, or agendas. Inspired by a family who has done this for more than decade every week, Awakin Circles are just a space to come together and share in a context of stillness, community and service.

To attend this Wednesday at 7PM, simply register in the right column and you'll be emailed all the details. There is no charge and no one is expected to bring anything but their lovely presence. The evening's format is as follows:

7:00PM   An hour of collective silence; its unguided, without any instructions or music. For
first-timers, this primer on meditation may be helpful.

8:00PM   A short reading (sent out earlier via email), followed by a circle of sharing of "aha" moments from everyday life.

9:00PM   Vegetarian meal, offered in silence. Those who stay afterwards are invited to offer time for local community projects.

Awakin Ahmedabad is hosted at the home of Meghna Banker near the Gandhi Ashram. If you have any questions, please email Meghna or call 9537160174.

Other Local Activities

To deepen our alignment with the spirit of service and our friendships with each other, we often host local events (like serving elderly residents at a care home and taking to the streets for a kindness flash mob), alongside 1-day "hands, head, heart" retreats. Below are some of the blog posts from some of our past gatherings ...

  • •

Seva Cafe is a weekend restaurant that is driven by volunteers and operated by a modest staff. Here's a recent video on History Channel that went super viral. To serve or simply attend as a guest, connect here.

  • •

Amdavad No Rickshawalo: A trip to Ahmedabad may seem incomplete without a ride in a rickshaw who's meter always read 'zero'. Uday Bhai, who is also famously known as Amdavad No Rickshawalo has been running this rickshaw in the spirit of Gift Economy for the past 9 years. To experience the ride and the conversations, contact Uday Bhai at: 9428017326

  • •

HHH Retreat: Every four to six months, local volunteers will spend a weekend together on the outskirt of Ahmedabad, where we deepen our shared experience of "hands, head, and heart". To know about the next retreat date, connect here. (See also stories).

Stories

Here's some stories that have continued to still our minds, feed our hearts, and remind us of the invisible collective constantly at work while homes across the globe, continue to remain open for each of us to come together in the spirit of silence and stillness :)
